Wet Wet Wet

There I was, somewhere in Scotland, a non-swimmer on the banks
of a flowing river, ready to cross it. Actually, I wasn't ready, but
the Discovery 4 definitely was. So were the Land Rover Experience guys
guiding me along – one chap in the water and another on the other side
of the waterway where I was supposed to leave the sizeable stream.
Worryingly, they didn't bring along a safety boat, an ambulance or a
hospital helicopter. They didn't even prepare life jackets and life
buoys. And I cannot for the life of me swim in any body of water bigger
than a jacuzzi.
My worries were unfounded. The Discovery 4 waded
across without breaking a sweat, which is more than could be said for
me at the wheel. Other than the beads of trepidation on my forehead,
the Disco cabin was bone dry, and the car was as cool as a cucumber
during our little river crossing. But boy was I glad to get back to
terra firma!
(Read the October issue of Torque to find out what
other stunts I pulled with the latest Land Rovers in the Scottish
countryside.)
