From the looks of things, Torque's next breakie get-together will happen early next year. If I'm honest – and I don't joke about things to do with eating – I'm genuinely surprised that we managed to have as many Saturdays of Breakfast With Torque (BWT) as we did.
Putting it together isn't rocket science, or any kind of science at all. It's not the matter of "working" on a Saturday morning either. After doing everything needed to get the next issue of the mag on the newsstands, there's hardly any time left.
When it comes to BWT, I do the easy part* – told you I'm honest – I just jump on the person in-charged of making it happen to "make it happen".
The job falls on the young and pretty one that handles the registration at BWT (Oh, those who haven't been to any will be rushing to sign up for the next one now don't you?).
Next thing we know, it's a Saturday and the gang eats, yaks and leaves. In between, we may catch a movie together, go out in some nice new cars, or scare one another speechless with a spot of "extreme driving".
In case you missed them all, those were the things we did in the past year of BWT, except none of it happened by magic.
The hardworking girl makes the key arrangements, which can be tricky juggling the varied interests.
When there are actual cars involved, I call friends to chip in. Tony, the Associate Ed will play emcee. David, the Deputy Ed will bring his little point-and-shoot to point and shoot – useful as evidence for some explain to their spouses why they sneaked out so early on a Saturday morning.
This is pretty much the modus operandi for BWT.
Yes, we have had setbacks. One of you told us that the mee siam was too salty, which broke our heart. Somebody else didn't like the movie, which I didn't care so much for.
Fortunately, it is not a thankless job.
Putting up a brave front, BWT set out claiming to be an opportunity for you to meet the people behind Torque. In truth, it's for us to see you. Between making new friendships, we even get ideas to put back into the printed mag.
Fingers crossed, next year's first BWT will involve something really nice. But you'd already have known that.
Until next time, NianTjoe
