A lazy stretch followed by a slow and easy morning brew with the day's newspapers - waking up on a morning should be gentle and relaxing.
Well, that was how things looked one faithful Saturday with the 45 people who signed up for the third Breakfast With Torque, a bi-monthly get-together for Torque readers.
Having breakfast with fellow car enthusiasts and a few nicely doneup performance cars and Ralliart merchandise as backdrop seemed like a good enough way to pass a
lazy morning. That was pretty much what was promised to the attendees who gathered at the Ralliart Pit - the boutique and lounge dedicated to the performance and motor sports arm of Mitsubishi. The pace soon picked up markedly with a quickfire quiz, in
which winners took home stuff like Ambi Pur hampers, Caltex petrol vouchers and grooming kits as well as a complete window tinting package courtesy of 3M.
But the highlight of this instalment happened outside the air-con comfort of the Pit.
Participants were given a map to a secret location, where they were handed the keys to a pair of Mitsubishis: a Lancer EX 2.0 GT and a tweaked Colt Version R.
This was not to be a quick test drive but a mini gymkhana under the guidance of experienced autocross drivers Sylvester Lim and Roland Teo.
If trying to apply the go-faster tips of the coaches on the challenging course marked by orange cones wasn't exciting enough, the participants were pitted against the clock - with the quickest drivers making away with prizes for their efforts.
All in the name of good fun, the adrenaline-pumping session climaxed with a series of high-speed rides in the mighty Evolution X.
From manic pirouetting a la Tommi Makinen in his victory dances to reverse flicks that deserved a spot in a James Bond movie, the morning was anything but a quiet Saturday.
