SMRT will double the number of ground staff deployed for the second month of shorter MRT operating hours on weekends, which started on Friday night (Jan 5).
SMRT forked out about $2 million on repairs and replacements to rail equipment after a flooding incident in October 2017.
As many as 300 shuttle buses a day will be deployed to ferry commuters affected by the closure of 10 East-West Line MRT stations on two Sundays in January 2018.
Construction workers who survived the accident said the collapse took them all by surprise.
LTA says the move is meant to facilitate maintenance and upgrading work in January and February 2018.
Ten MRT stations on the East-West Line will have shorter operating hours at weekends next month, as well as full-day closures on two Sundays.
Up to 160 SMRT staff took advantage of the full-day closure of 19 stations on the East-West Line (EWL) and North-South Line.
The shorter operating hours are aimed at allowing for longer engineering hours on the North-South and East-West lines.
