Ford has introduced the industry’s only five-row curtain airbag, in the 15-passenger Transit “maxi-van”. The massive, one-piece protective “balloon” measures 4.57 metres in length (that’s longer than the Focus saloon from bumper to bumper) and almost a metre in height, and when inflated, holds a whopping 120 litres of air. The Transit’s giant curtain airbag is part of Ford’s supplementary restraint system called Safety Canopy.
