Readers were given a taste of the future at this Breakfast With Torque, which featured the all-electric BMW i3.
OUR Breakfast With Torque events usually showcase the newest makes and models, but the occasion that took place in June was markedly diff erent. The star of the event – the all-electric BMW i3 – is not only new, it’s also downright futuristic, making it current in more ways than one.
The event, which took place at The Prime Society along Dempsey Road, was also a chance for participants to understand the technologies behind the i3. Torque readers are known for their knowledge of cars, but the uniqueness of this electric Bimmer required guests to immerse themselves in the morning’s programmes.
Said schedule included product presentations and an in-depth look at how BMW manufactures its carbon fibre. Participants were also encouraged to estimate the fuel cost savings that the i3 could deliver and compare it to their current fuel costs per month.
Running costs are a big part of car ownership, but an equally significant part is the driving experience. Participants got behind the wheel of the i3 and experienced its instantaneous power delivery and zippy acceleration. One of our guests, Eugene Tan, commented: “After driving it, I now really understand why this car is the Straits Times Car Of The Year [2014]. It is unlike anything I’ve ever driven before.”
