If you already own a decent family car, and you’re interested in cars, you would want motoring magazines to provide different, “non-family” content for your leisure reading. Why would anyone read up more on family cars when he already has a family car?
But don’t get me wrong. Every mag has its own readers and supporters, and no single title can fulfill every reader’s need. The thing I like about Torque is that it covers a lot of “affordable” cars that people are actually looking to buy. Personally, I like your Group Test section the most.

SOLID OLD VOLVO

The 240 GLE sold by authorised dealer SM Motors [Torque website story, An engineer’s Swede ride] had the 2-litre engine, which was rather underpowered. The same car in overseas markets had the 2.3-litre engine, which was adequate for the heavy chassis.
But reliability-wise, the 240 GLE has been excellent. Its engine can go for at least 400,000 kilometres without any major work done. Just routine servicing and replacement of wear-and-tear parts will do.
Torque These Swedish “tanks” were built to last. In the case of the story’s 25-year-old Volvo 240 GLE owned by retired traffic engineer Joseph Yee, it has lasted a long time in Singapore.

I took part to win attractive prizes. This year’s event was more fun with the bonus challenges, and it was well organised. But it can be improved by increasing the team members from two per car to four.
