Rubber at the interface of intimate contact is the primary determinant of pleasure and safety.
Let’s use shoes to illustrate this point. You have shoes meant for running, cross-training and football. Good shoes can elevate your performance and enjoyment, whereas crummy ones can ruin your ability. Poorly designed shoes can even ruin your knees.
The same is true when it comes to tyres.
To that end, a tyre’s design is an exact, exhaustive, continually innovative engineering effort. To corral such extremes of physics as that which a car places on its contact points at high speed on different surfaces, wet and dry, is no mean feat.
That’s exactly what Bridgestone did to engineer its latest premium touring tyre, the Turanza T005A.
Shorter braking distances, especially in wet conditions, can help prevent accidents. To this end, the Bridgestone Turanza T005A features chamfering at the edge of the tyres’ tread to ensure a flat contact surface with the road – even under heavy braking loads. Preventing the tread from deforming inwards yields a 5 percent improvement in wet braking distances.
Indeed, a Toyota Camry shod with the new Bridgestone Turanza T005A is able to stop a full car length shorter than a similar Camry equipped with older Bridgestone GR100 tyres.
Apart from this enhancement in safety, the Bridgestone Turanza T005A also promises to further enhance ride comfort. Each tread block from the inside to the outside shoulder has been given its own unique pitch and pattern to reduce resonance and improve quietness.
Meanwhile, the high-angle sipes (the diagonal “slashes” that join two tread trenches), soften the tyres’ impact on the road. The end results are significantly less tyre noise on broken pavement, an increase in overall smoothness, and an overall reduction in road noise.
A fine analysis during development of pressures at the contact point has also allowed Bridgestone to mould its tread shapes so that they exert a more uniform pressure pattern. Again, this clearly benefits refinement.
A premium touring tyre like the Turanza T005A doesn’t just deliver safety and comfort, though. It also heightens handling with its more robust sidewalls, and a new compound infused with Nano Pro-Tech that delivers greater surefootedness.
Bridgestone’s Nano Pro-Tech is a trademarked technology that strengthens the bond between silica and polymer, thereby reducing heat generation and energy loss.
When it comes to premium touring tyres, the Bridgestone Turanza T005A is well-engineered “footwear” for your car. It elevates both performance and enjoyment by gripping harder in all conditions, while simultaneously delivering a quieter, smoother and safer ride.
