Skoda teamed up with 2016 Great British Bake Off winner and professional baker Candice Brown to launch miniature version of the iconic Fabia Cake, with the mouth-watering bake paying homage to the iconic advert and celebrating the launch of the newly facelifted Fabia supermini.
Baking fever has once again gripped the nation of Britain – and Skoda UK is no exception. The Czech car manufacturer has partnered with professional baker and 2016 Great British Bake Off winner Candice Brown to re-imagine a delicious, small-scale replica of the iconic Fabia Cake. It comes more than a decade after Skoda’s advert, which saw a life-size version of the Fabia car made entirely out of cake.
Candice drew inspiration from the new sporty Fabia Monte Carlo that the Skoda launched in September, with the facelifted Fabia range available in Skoda dealerships across Europe and the UK.
The cake-car’s “interior” was built from six layers of fluffy lemon sponge sandwiched together with a mouth-watering citrus-infused buttercream, before being carved to form the shape of the supermini. For the “exterior”, Candice used fondant icing to sculpt the newly designed LED headlights, wheels, windscreen wipers, front grille and the detail of the Skoda badge to create a perfect imitation of the compact car.
The original cake which starred in the hit 2007 TV ad was nearly four metres long and one-and-a-half metres high, so Candice has released the recipe for a small-scale version which means aspiring bakers can make it at home. The recipe is available at www.skoda.co.uk/FabiaCake.
Candice commented: “Everyone remembers and loves the original ad, so when I got the challenge through to recreate the new Fabia out of cake, I jumped at it. We’re encouraging everyone and anyone to have a go to see if they can recreate the car. The beauty of baking is that it doesn’t matter how good or bad you are, regardless of what it looks like, cake is always delicious, so you can’t go far wrong… hopefully.”
