Commuters took to social media during the morning peak hour on Tuesday (June 27) with complaints of slow train service along the North-South and East-West lines.
Those affected said that train services at Clementi station, as well as from Jurong East station to Joo Koon station were slow, with some saying it took almost an hour to get from Jurong East to Joo Koon, which are five stops apart.
As of 9.45am, SMRT had not made any announcements on its Twitter account or Facebook page.
The Straits Times understands that there was a train fault at Tuas Link station along the East-West line, as well as a train with a stuck brake along the North-South line.
When The Straits Times visited Clementi station along the East-West line at 9.45am, the situation appeared normal with no large crowds at the platforms.
However, trains heading in the direction of Pasir Ris/Changi Airport seemed to be experiencing some slight delays. Service staff said this could have been due to the wet weather.
Station staff also confirmed that there had been a disruption earlier.
Madam Foridah Motosir, a SMRT service staff at Clementi said that the train disruptions lasted about 35 minutes from about 8.15am. “The platform was flooded with people,” she said.
Another service staff, Madam Kamarulbahriah, said: “There were no announcements about the delays, usually in such situations they would have already made them. So we had to explain to commuters that there was a train fault at Tuas Link and asked them to be patient.”
