Mazda CX-8 six-seater.
The Mazda CX-8 is now officially available in Singapore.
This SUV is positioned between the smaller CX-5 and larger CX-9 models. Uniquely, it is available as either a six-seater or seven-seater.
Mazda says that the CX-8 is aimed at buyers who seek a car that fulfils the “executive transport” role for work, while being flexible enough for families on weekends.
Both the Mazda CX-8 six-seater and CX-8 seven-seater can be had in either Elegance or Luxury specification, with prices starting from $153,888.
MAZDA CX-8 – SIX OR SEVEN SEATS?
The CX-8 is the first new-generation model to feature a “more mature interpretation of Mazda’s KODO – Soul of Motion design language.”
Uniquely, the CX-8 comes in either a six-seater or seven-seater layout. The former, with its 2+2+2 seating, offers more comfort for the second-row occupants, while the latter offers more flexibility and practicality.
Luggage capacity is 209 litres with all seats in place and 775 litres with the third-row seats folded. With all rear seats folded, cargo capacity rises to 1727 litres.
TECH FEATURES
The Mazda CX-8 features a part-digital, part-analogue instrument cluster. A 7-inch TFT display, which can show a variety of pertinent information, takes centre stage here.
The standard heads-up display helps keep the driver’s eyes focussed on the road.
Mazda Connect, the brand’s infotainment system, is equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for enhanced connectivity.
To help keep occupants secure, the Mazda CX-8 has i-ACTIVESENSE, the carmaker’s suite of safety features. These include Advanced Smart City Brake Support, Lane Keep Assist and Lane Departure Warning systems.
A 360-degree camera and eight parking sensors aid with parking manoeuvres.
The Elegance specification has almost the same level of equipment as the higher-end Luxury version, except for the Blind Spot Monitor and Bose audio system.
POWERTRAIN
All Mazda CX-8 variants are powered the SKYACTIV-G 2.5-litre engine, a naturally aspirated inline-4 producing 192hp (143kW) and 258Nm. This powerplant is paired to a 6-speed automatic.
Mazda claims a combined fuel consumption of 12.3km/L (8.1 litres per 100km).
The CX-8 only comes in front-wheel-drive. Interestingly, its ground clearance is higher than that of the CX-9, which is available with all-wheel-drive.
PRICE AND AVAILABILITY
The Mazda CX-8 is available at official agent Trans Eurokars. Both six-seater and seven-seater models are identically priced.
The CX-8 Elegance currently retails for $153,888, while the CX-8 Luxury variant is priced at $157,888. Both prices are inclusive of the $10k VES surcharge, and are only valid till 21 Oct 2020.
