A new information display panel for buses is being tested out, which can provide commuters with useful, on-route information.
The graphic display will show users the current bus stop, upcoming ones and the end destination.
Called the Passenger Information Display System (PIDS), it will be put on a two-month trial by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) from Thursday.
It will be deployed on a MAN A22 bus which runs the 106 route that is operated by Tower Transit. The service starts plying in Bukit Batok and ends in Shenton Way.
Currently, some buses feature an LED dot matrix panel which only informs commuters which is the next stop, and when the bus is stopping.
The LTA said that the new display can be used to provide commuters with more real-time information, such as messages regarding MRT disruptions and traffic congestions.
Audio announcements of the upcoming bus stop can also help the visually impaired or senior citizens.
The LTA said: “Such real-time information allows commuters to make more informed decisions on the go, and a better travelling experience for their public transport commute.”
