Borneo Motors, the official Toyota distributor in Singapore, has launched the new Toyota RAV4 Hybrid.
The RAV4 was introduced in 1994. Since then, it has sold over 10 million units globally.
Built on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA-K), platform, the latest RAV4 Hybrid resembles its non-hybrid sibling, with an angular and chiselled body.
To help it stand out, the RAV4 Hybrid features newly designed 18-inch wheels and LED headlights. Inside, the new SUV’s infotainment system is accessed via a 9-inch touchscreen display. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard.
Beneath the bonnet of course, is where the two models really differ.
The RAV4 Hybrid’s drivetrain is a naturally aspirated 2.5-litre inline-4 paired to a permanent magnet synchronous motor, which in turn is powered by a nickel metal-hydride battery.
Total system output is 215hp (160kW) and 221Nm. The benchmark zero to 100km/h time is dispatched in 8.1 seconds, and the car has a top speed of 180km/h. Toyota claims a combined fuel consumption figure of 21.2km/L. In comparison, the non-hybrid RAV4 is rated at 16.7km/L.
ON-BOARD SAFETY
The RAV4 Hybrid is equipped with Toyota Safety Sense, the brand’s suite of driver assistance and safety features. These can help prevent accidents by informing and warning the driver, and when needed, can intervene using automatic braking and steering assistance.
The list of features includes Pre-Collision System (PCS) with Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert. Seven airbags, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and a tyre pressure warning system are all also standard.
